It took me a while to join in on this one. Mad Men is easily one of the most honest, engaging shows i’ve seen. I’m slogging through season 2 right now, but the hype I’m hearing about the next two is intriguing.
I would never have watched this show on TV. I don’t have the attention span for long-running shows that only air once a week. And I surely wouldn’t take the time to DVR every episode in order. Netflix is the answer to the modern TV mess.
I heard earlier this week that Starz backed out of their agreement with Netflix due to concerns about the flat pricing structure and massive growth in the streaming segment. I’m sure they’re off to start their own streaming solution or jump into a relationship with another provider.
Meanwhile, I’m enjoying Mad Men, and not some mess of a movie from the Starz channel. I get that it’s not hip to root for the big guy, but when Netflix makes it so easy for me to find and enjoy a new series, I will vote with my $8. Netflix isn’t perfect – the mix of TV and cable movies often ruins a perfectly good hour as I scrub through page after page of duds. But I can say for sure that I’ll be keeping my subscription alive in hopes that Netflix pulls a better deal now that Starz is on the way out.
